Hyundai has issued a major recall affecting more than 80,000 vehicles across Canada due to a software issue that could increase the risk of a crash. The recall involves certain 2025 and 2026 Hyundai Tucson and Santa Cruz models equipped with a forward collision avoidance system (FCA). According to Transport Canada, a problem with the front camera software may cause the system to activate unexpectedly and apply the brakes even when there is no actual risk of a collision.

The unexpected braking could surprise drivers and create dangerous situations on the road, particularly if another vehicle is following closely behind. Safety officials warn that sudden braking without a valid reason can increase the likelihood of rear-end crashes. Hyundai has received numerous reports related to the issue, and similar incidents have been investigated in other markets as well.

To address the problem, Hyundai will notify affected vehicle owners and ask them to visit an authorized dealership for a free software update. The update will correct the front camera system and reduce the risk of unintended braking. Owners are encouraged to check whether their vehicle is included in the recall and arrange for the repair as soon as possible.

The recall has attracted significant attention across Canada as vehicle safety remains a major concern for drivers and regulators. Hyundai says it is committed to resolving the issue quickly and ensuring the safety of its customers.
